For Every Order Placed, The Shade Store Plants a Tree
Did you know that The Shade Store plants a tree in our national forests for every order placed? Since 2008, they have been promoting The Gift of Shade® program, which is a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.
Where are the trees planted?
Umpqua National Forest, Oregon
The 2015 Stouts fire burned 14,402 acres on the Umpqua National Forest in steep and rugged terrain. Since the fires, this watershed has experienced high levels of sedimentation in the streams that flow out of the heavily burned areas, landslides, and other effects from the loss of vegetation. The main purpose for replanting is to restore the watershed to a suitable forest condition as quickly as possible. This will not only help the animals that call the forest their home, but also all those benefiting from Umpqua’s watershed.
Klamath National Forest, California
Multiple fires from 2013 to 2017 have taken their toll on Klamath National Forest. The damage has affected not only critical habitat for the threatened Northern Spotted Owl but also habitat for threatened and endangered Coho Salmon. And due to the large burn area in some regions of the forest, seed sources are minimal to non-existent. Reforestation efforts will shorten the time frame for establishing forest habitat for the Northern Spotted Owl, protect aquatic habitat for Coho Salmon, provide slope stability, and reduce potential long-term erosion.
